Introducing Bonsave: AI Personal Finance Insights That Actually Makes Sense

Willis Allstead

I’m a personal finance nerd. I’ve had Rocket Money (formerly Truebill) on my phone for years. I check it at least once a day, but I’ve always thought it could be so much more useful if it just told me one thing I needed to know, instead of making me dig through all the data to find it myself. There are some apps out there trying to integrate AI with personal finance, but either they go too far (e.g. write access to your finances) or not far enough. So I said “Screw it, I’ll build that myself.” And here we are: Bonsave.

What Bonsave does

At its core, Bonsave is a solid personal finance tool. Connect your bank accounts and investment portfolios and you get the full picture: net worth over time, spending by category, budget targets, etc.

But that’s not why I built it.

Daily insights. Every morning, Bonsave looks at your recent transactions and financial data and surfaces the one thing most worth knowing. Not a summary. Not a report. One specific observation: a subscription that quietly increased, a category that crept over budget, a savings rate you should actually be proud of. It takes five seconds to read and you actually learn something.

Chat about your money. You can ask it questions about your money. Not generic questions (“how do I save money?”), but specific questions (“why did my net worth drop last month?”) or (“what’s my worst performing investment?”). It can explain your spending patterns, analyze your portfolio, or even help you plan for a big purchase. It’s like having a financial advisor in your pocket, without the judgment.

Who it’s for

Bonsave is for people who want to be financially intentional without having to become obsessive. You don’t need to log every latte or reconcile to the penny. You do need to know whether you’re making progress.

If you’ve ever opened a finance app, felt overwhelmed, and closed it within a minute, this is for you.

What’s next

We’re launching today with net worth tracking, spending analysis, budget management, recurring payment (subscription) detection, AI insights, and AI chat. On the roadmap: MCP (Model Context Protocol) support so you can use Bonsave right in Claude or your favorite AI assistant, an iOS app, and more features based on your feedback.

We’re a small team and we ship fast. If something’s broken or missing, let us know.
